Learning the Troupe Empty
PostSubject: Learning the Troupe    Learning the Troupe EmptyThu Aug 13, 2015 9:40 pm

Kichona Kasai walked through the halls of the Troupe base not sure if his stay was really voluntary or if he was a 'politely kept prisoner' here. It was such an awkward position to be in. These were the very people he had hated for so long but the problem around that...the one at the center of that hate was not Chronos who had sat down at length and told him all about his remorse for choices made then, it was for Kogai who had been so angry and so hurt he had lashed out and done something he could never take back and now had to live with it. Kichona walked through the halls and paused as he came to an open door and stopped his heart skipped a beat as he felt like a child yet again. Like he was back to being either four or six years old but it was the sight. The elder Kasai stood there the monkey clearly seen but that wasn't what had him pausing it was the horrid mess of mutilated skin on his lower back stopping at 'Honor' level. Where he could pull down his kimono back home and show that he had his honor and happy, but there was no mistaking what was there. The damaged skin was from the 'Stroke of the Condemned.' Kichona almost reached back to touch his own lower back, his skin was not nearly so damaged but it was a horrible lattice work of scars that would never heal, not correctly. If he didn't put this special ointment on every morning and evening they would reopen and bleed down his back. Kicha reached into the breast pocket of his Black short jacket with red and gold embossing, the panels hanging down around his waist over a white pair of breeches and tunic. Pulling out the metal container about three inches deep his feet shifted as he meant to give it to Kogai...he could always make more and took a light soundless step towards the open door....

He had seen the start of that at the age of six...before one of the priests came and grabbed him when he went to run and in beg them to stop, the priest had picked him up covering his mouth and took him back to his 'chamber' there and threw him in onto his bed before closing the door and bolting it. Telling him that he would stay there and reflect upon his sin. That he should never go against the rule of the High Priests and that that boy had to be punished for his transgressions and sins. He would not be released until he was ready to obey the seven vows. And then he walked away leaving Kichona alone.....it was that day he resolved to master his scriptures quickly. If he did....he could have the power to stop them from punishing someone like that right? From using that terrible multi hooked whip that shredded the skin it came into contact with. His hand closed around the container as he meant to give it to Kogai...it would heal up the damage that didn't run so deep and it would seal up the deeper damage making a 'skin' that would allow him to move without great pain....

Kogai sat there, shirtless as he let the drug take effect. When they started to wear off, his body could feel the full brunt of the scars on his back- he could feel pain once again when the medicine Chronos had helped him get wore off. "Thank you...for always knowing when I needed this Chronos..." he said lowly as he sat there, head bowed as he felt the pain starting to slowly die down once again.

Chronos's back came into view then, blocking Kicha's entrance. "You know you don't need to thank me Kogai..." he told him warmly as he put a gentle hand on his shoulder. "How are you feeling now? Has the medicine taken effect now?" he asked as he moved over to the side to let Kicha once again see Kogai's back.

Kogai smiled, not that Kicha could see it, and chuckled lowly before he answered Chronos, "Yeah...it's taken effect now. It's not so bad anymore...my fever will go down again now..."

Medicine? Something outside of Penance that helped....by alrights he shouldn't have it or make it. But...he was still worried about Kogai and he had more with him they had gone to collect his bag from his hotelroom and in doing so brought his clothes or rather Gokei had stopped on the way out here and gotten it. The man thought of everything it seemed.

He held the small tin that fit perfectly in the palm of his hand as they spoke. He paused as his heart all but skipped a beat would Kogai be upset that he saw them? He couldn't let that stop him though that was not something that he should have no means of even healing a fraction of it from. He knocked lightly on the door a polite....sound. While his hand remained closed around the container. As long as Kogai didn't ask him why he had Penance.....why he made it....when his healing chain could heal almost every injury he got....except the shredded depths of those years old wounds. "Excuse me...." he said lowly softly not wanting to interrupt them...but....he had never been able to ignore when something was wrong with Kogai even when he didn't know his name back then....he'd come up and give him treats when the priest's insisted he starve for doing nothing wrong. But he had always been a shy child back then unable to stick around and get his name.

Kogai turned to glance over his shoulder, frown gracing his features instantly when he realized that it was Kicha. He hadn't meant to let anyone else see....yet here he was. "Hey..." he said lowly as he sat there, needle in his hand. The pen style needle he had to use to administer the drug. He looked up at Chronos and held it out to him asking lowly, "Could you get rid of this for me Chronos? It'll be a few minutes before I can stand still..."

Chronos, aware of Kogai's distaste for letting Kicha see his scars and his current state, he smiled and nodded, taking the needle from Kogai's hand. "Of course...I'll take it and dispose of it properly...you just worry about letting the medicine take full effect..." he answered warmly as he moved away from them and walked out of the door, closing it behind him. Kogai had to face this eventually. It might not be the ideal situation, but now was better than never.

"I'm sorry....I was six then...." He said walking up to him and catching his hand placing the ointment container into his hand and took a deep breath. He looked at him and then let go and looked at the floor. "I really never had the courage to introduce myself back then. But....that day I had wandered into the area as they Started... 'Stroke of the Condemned'...." He said as his hands went into his pockets. "A priest came up behind me when I went to beg them to stop and they....he....took me to the chamber that served as my cell and room they locked me inside until I 'learned my place and not to interfere with the the rulings of the High Priests....especially when they were 'driving the sin out of someone.' I...." he sighed and looked away. "I told him they were mistaken....you weren't full of sin. His answer was that I would stay in the chamber until I learned my place.....it was four days before they finally let me out again." He took a deep breath. "I...swore to master my scriptures that much faster....at the time I believed that if I did, they would listen more if I had it." he said as he looked at him from the corner of his eye.

He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. "That is....the ointment 'Penance'..it will seal up any wounds and heal them in the upper deep tissue....but the wounds in the deeper tissue won't heal. The other part of it is a sealant, it forms a skin, over the wounds and help reduce pain. But it has to be applied in the morning and evening." He said and then fell silent as he realized he was babbling. What he wasn't saying...and he hoped that Kogai didn't think about was the fact that with there people gone he should have no reason to make it, have it or even need that ointment.

Kogai sighed and closed his eyes as he listened to Kicha talking, but opened his eyes when the ointment was put in his hand. He knew damned well what it was...but hadn't known how to make it. The last of his personal supply had ran out two years ago. "Thanks...but I can't use it anymore..." he said as he held it back out to Kicha. "It will react badly with the medicine I'm taking for it now," he explained as he looked at Kicha, not going to say a word about Kicha's having it. It was his fault...the kid had followed his example and it had gotten him sent down this path.

"I was eleven...they beat me like this and then told me to leave the island and never come back...they refused to let me go see my family or anything...they cast me out and told me to never come back...I spent a little while wandering before I found Gravity City...the place was- is a dump and a crime infested city, but it was here that I ended up living. I heard talk in the city about a bunch of older kids causing a whole lot of trouble and ended up meeting them by accident. Chronos took me in and from then on, I've been a member of the Troupe...I hardly remember anything about the island now...the traditions, how to speak the language...I can't hardly remember anything about then..." he admitted lowly and smiled at Kicha.

"I can remember how to read it, and a few things related to the temple...but I can't remember the really important things anymore..."

Kichona frowned slightly as he took the ointment back and sighed nodding. "It's been a long time." he agreed, he sighed as he held it. "I remember it all, if it's something you wanted to talk about I could tell you." he sighed as he closed his hand around the container and looked at Kogai.

"Honestly....I worked so hard....I watched the others and they failed at any attempts of mastery. But I molded everything after you....you were this really cool older kid that I respected." He said looking at the container in his hand. "When they sent you away I had asked and they said that you had failed at it in the end and went on a journey of self enlightenment....I had believed that lying was beyond those in the temple but it didn't make sense to me....not you. There was no way you of all people would have failed at resonance and mastery of your scripture....and after? All the ones that were later chosen....couldn't master there scriptures....I'm the only guardian." Kichona sighed as he lowered his hand. "I used to think I'd master the scriptures and then I'd finally be able to work up the courage and learn your name because we'd be guarding them together...."

Kichona looked over at him. "I used to think I annoyed you all the time. Just this bratty kid that followed you from a distance." He closed his hand hard on the container feeling the bite and sting of the metal or rather he should....but his body no longer registered pain like it should. "I did master it at the age of 11....at first they were so....excited...." Here he trialed off at first that is until they needed to witness the crest and made him remove his top. The first crest they found.....was not one they wanted to see it meant...his resonance was as high as Osen's and what they feared with Osen....Kichona did. And they punished him for it. "I suppose the biggest surprise? After I mastered it....and was told I could finally leave temple grounds and explore the city...I ran into my parents and sister....they told me I was no child of their's that I belonged to the temple and do not insult the honor of my blood line....that they had no son and never did."

"I learned quickly that to be a Guardian meant I have nothing. Can hold nothing as my own. That great honor? Meant that I belonged to no one and was a Tool of the Temple." He opened his hand and looked at the shallow cuts on his palm from the edges of the container. Then looked at Kogai. He wasn't all that willing to say that when he mastered his Scriptures of Conjur, the problem he was soundly punished for was that he gained the seal of the Specialist....and that meant his skills weren't finished growing they still were.

Kogai chuckled and shook his head at the idea of remembering his heritage now. "Relearning to be someone I've not been for years? I'm not that same kid anymore Kichona. I like being part of the clan...but I'll never go back to being Osen. I'll always be Kogai now...and that's something that I'm okay with," he told him and looked over at the broken window.

"In the last moments of my mastery, they found me and stopped me...I was about to absorb my scripture and become the guardian for it...but they yelled at me and told me that I had sinned...I was so confused. I thought that I was doing what they wanted me to do, but I had been wrong. They never wanted me to learn how to use my scripture, they just wanted me to look pretty and tell the village that I was happy in the temple..." he said, telling Kicha the part of the story he had never got to see. "Everything I thought I was doing right...I was doing wrong to them. I wasn't allowed to belong to anything...not even the temple. They hated me Kichona...starved me and beat me...it wasn't until I was 11 that they used the whip on me..the rest of the times? they used their fists and feet..." he said as he looked back to Kicha then.

"Being a guardian was all I had wanted. I wanted to do my job and learn everything they told me to....but I was utterly alone and the whole reason you suffered...was because you followed in my footsteps...I'm sorry for that..."

Kichona looked at him. "I'm not." He said firmly as he looked at Kogai sitting there. Telling him that the whole reason that he suffered was because he followed in his footsteps. "I don't blame you for there treatment of me. I blame them. Since coming to the main land I've seen more then the Temple Priests would have wished. Have learned more about the outside world." He sighed as he put the container back into the pocket.

"I suffered because I followed the example of someone who was very talented and skilled someone I looked up to because he was someone like me. Who didn't have to struggle to read the old text, who understood the scriptures that he was reading? I suffered because I looked up to the one kid that ended the bitter isolation and lonilness I felt even if I couldn't even get up the courage to say hi and my name?" He looked at Kogai. "No." He shook his head. "I don't blame you for one moment of the way they treated me....I never have."

Kichona sighed as he looked at him. Then reached up and undid the the jacket and tossed it on a chair before grabbing his tunic...it meant showing him risking showing him everything if even a bit of the lattice work wounds peeked above the shirt line....."And I know the real reason they treated you the way they did....the screamed it at me for three days." He undid the cords that tied the front shut opened it and then let it slide down his arms to rest just below his elbows and then turned around in between his shoulder blades was the hidden seal among the scriptures. The Crest of the Specialist, but covering his lower back in the curve and going down were open wounds that had partially healed being nine years old....his time at the hands of the whip. There was still good skin in there....but the lattice work was nasty as the lines clearly criss crossed all over his back leaving small diamond patches of good skin all over. He paused a moment before turning around. "The reason they treated you the way they did....was no one no guardian was ever supposed to gain the crest that sits between my shoulder blades. Your so called sin? Was the fact that as a Manipulator your resonance was so high they feared if you absorbed the scriptures to guard them....that this would appear on your body....That you would gain it. So they took every measure to stop you....I heard the whole thing....they screamed at me for three days straight." He closed his eyes. "Like I said I'm not sorry....because you never did anything wrong." He said as he had turned around so that Kogai could see it the Crest on his upper back but parts of the open scars peeked above the tunic....all he'd have to do is pull it down slightly to see Kichona's own. But Kicha didn't want to show him so that Kogai didn't blame himself.

Kogai closed his eyes and sighed. "Blame me or not...it doesn't matter. I caused all of your problems Kichona. I wish I had never joined the temple..." he said lowly and opened his eyes to look back out the broken window. "I wish I could redo all of the things I've done these last five years...everything..." he said as he looked at the dark, dank city down below.

He looked back at Kicha then and smiled at him none the less. He couldn't erase time, couldn't go back to fix his past mistakes. He couldn't heal his own scars or Kicha's. All he could do was move forward and work on becoming a better person than he once was. "Since you never asked me all of those years ago, I'll tell you like you wanted me to back then..." he said as he looked at Kicha. "Hi. My name is Osen Kasai. What's yours?" It was childish in its own right, but it was something he felt like he needed to do, to make Kicha and himself feel at ease about things now.

Kicha turned around as he spoke then went a touch wide eyed as he said that because he never asked he would tell him as he wanted him to all those years ago. "Hi," He answered in kind. "I'm Kichona Kasai." he answered it did seem childish but in turn since all of this started Kicha smiled that, smile had graced his face in a long time longer then the five years but he would not burden Kogai with that. Kicha shifted his tunic up and redid the strings that tied it shut as he looked at him.

"Mmm Kogai?" he asked after a moment despite being told his true name. He wished to go by Kogai and so Kicha would respect that wish. "If I can locate your scriptures.....I can unlock the Psy-Nen Barrier from the previous Guardian who tried to link with it and failed...." He took a deep breath. "If I do...would you still be willing to be it's guardian? As you should have been all along?"

Kichona asked looking at him he was technically captain of a dead guard unit. But that wasn't what or why and while he knew..."I know Psy-nen I know it's not exactly a secret anymore but....I'd feel better if I find it and can get the scriptures at least one more into the hands of a Guardian....." After all Mugo had Psy-Nen....and without any prior knowledge of it existence....He hesitated to say because he didn't know if Kogai still remembered how to see with Gyo....if he did...then he'd see what Kicha saw....Mugo had it...and his was a very strong form of it. Kicha reached over and grabbed the short waist coat and slipped it on closing it as he asked the question....would Kogai be willing to after all this time?
